HOW CAN I BE A PARTNER IN MY CHILD'S NEW VOICES EDUCATION?

  • Log onto Engradepro to monitor your child’s academic progress and standing.

  • Use the homework planner to learn what your child is doing in school, what the assignments are, and to help him or her address class requirements.

  • Be active in the Parent Association-on the board, on committees, volunteering at events, donating, etc.

  • Attend Parent Teacher Conferences.

8:15 A.M. to 2:35 P.M.

HOW MANY STUDENTS ARE THERE AT NEW VOICES?

529 students (this number fluctuates each year)

 

WHAT IS THE AVERAGE NUMBER OF STUDENTS IN A CLASS?

 30–32 students

DOES NEW VOICES OFFER ACCELERATED CLASSES?

New Voices offers math and science Regents classes.      

WHAT IS THE HOMEWORK POLICY?

Most teachers will assign homework on a daily basis. Homework is intended to reinforce and extend the instruction of the day. Teachers will explain and clarify assignments and provide feedback to students on their homework assignments.  Students will organize, complete, and turn in their daily assignments. It is the responsibility of the parent to monitor and assist when and where necessary. Questions about homework should be directed to your child’s teacher.      

DO STUDENTS GO ON TRIPS?

Field trips are planned to enhance and support the school curriculum.  All students and parents will be notified well in advance of a planned trip. Students must have written consent from a parent/legal guardian before going on any field trip.  Parents who chaperone may ride on the school bus or subway with the students.

WHAT DO I DO IF MY CHILD IS ABSENT?

Regular attendance is critical for student success.  If your child is absent, make sure to send a letter to the school with your child upon return that explains the reason for the absence.

HOW DO I CONTACT MY CHILD’S TEACHERS?

If you need to contact your child’s teacher for any reason, please send a note or an e-mail message through Engradepro, or call the school for an appointment.

CAN MY CHILD BE RELEASED EARLY IF I SEND HIM OR HER WITH A NOTE?

No, students must be picked up and signed out by a person listed on the blue emergency card.

CAN MY CHILD BRING IN NOOKS, iPADS OR ANY ELECTRONIC DEVICE TO SCHOOL?

Students are discouraged from bringing items such as iPads, Gameboys, trading cards, and other toys or games to school.  The school will not be held responsible for personal items.

HOW DO I CONTACT MY CHILD IF THERE IS AN EMERGENCY?

In case of an emergency, call the school at 718-965-0390 to speak withone of the school secretaries, who will get a message to the classroom teacher.
